SummaryUnder the collaborative agreement with a physician, the Certified Nurse Midwife provides patient care and education to an assigned caseload of obstetrical and gynecological patients in accordance with established midwifery practice guidelines.
Responsibilities- Provide direct prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum patient services and primary care to low risk and at-risk obstetrical and gynecological patients, using general accepted standards of practice, which includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment consultation and co-management of at-risk patients, and referral when appropriate to either MD/DO only management or referral to consultant, such as Maternal Fetal Medicine.
- Assists with follow-up care of referrals and provides the appropriate information to the referral source.
- Provide outpatient care for obstetrical patients in accordance with clinical protocols for Certified Nurse Midwife care.
- Monitors quality of patient records and ensures inclusion of all appropriate findings, recommendations, follow-up care and referral.
- Provides educational and other related services for well woman care, manages women care for essentially healthy woman through their life cycle.
- Provides staff and student education.
- Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities.
- Assists in the review and development of standing orders and policies and procedures. Provides consultative direction as needed.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, and environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Follows established guidelines for use/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) rules to the Privacy Office immediately. Failure to comply with HIPPA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and termination of employment.

Education: Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Midwifery
Certification
Required:
Current valid CA Nurse Midwife License, DEA, and CPR certification. American Board of Midwifery certification preferred
Experience
:
One year experience as a CNM preferred
Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual preferred. Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills.
Technical knowledge and skills required to perform the job

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups. Demonstrate high levels of self-initiation and direction. Knowledge of communities we serve. Knowledge and experience working in medical settings and interacting collaboratively with medical teams. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Work involves sitting, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
