Job Description Summary

MUSC’s Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for a PA or APRN to join its team of Advanced Practice Providers. Incumbent will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services for direct patient care in the Adult Emergency Departments in the Main University Hospital and Ashley River Tower, as delegated by the Emergency Medicine physician.

Job Description

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Hours per week:
PRN – shifts are based on staffing vacancies and availability of open shifts

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift
  • 10-hour shifts which could include weekdays, nights, weekends and holiday coverage

  • PRN APPs are required to work a minimum of 1 shift per month (or 3 averaged per quarter), provided sufficient qualified shifts are posted or otherwise offered by the department

    • Continued PRN status requires reasonable participation in filling available shifts

  • The APP must maintain sufficient clinical activity to demonstrate continued competency in the assigned patient population, clinical setting, procedures, and privileges

Required Training:

Required Minimum Training
:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed as a Physician Assistant or;

Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed as an APRN as noted below.

  • AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner):
    Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.

  • FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Preferred APRN Training

AGACNP or ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner):
Adult pts (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent (vents, drips, monitors, etc.)

FNP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification

AGPNP/ANP with current Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Certification

Required Experience:

Minimum of 1 year experience as a PA or APRN in an Emergency Department setting or completion of an Emergency Medicine Fellowship/Residency

Degree of Supervision

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Preferred Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) as required by our Level I Trauma Center

Job Duties

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations

  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline

Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief:

  • Administration of Local and Digital Anesthesia

  • Complicated and Uncomplicated Repair of Lacerations

  • Removal of Foreign Bodies from Eyes, Ears, Nose, Skin, and Wounds
