Job DetailsSchool-Based Nurse Practitioner – Chemical Dependency
Position Summary:
The School-Based Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Chemical Dependency provides onsite medical and behavioral health care to students struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges. The NP serves as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team focused on early intervention, treatment, and recovery support for youth affected by chemical dependency.
School-Based Nurse Practitioner – Chemical Dependency Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive physical, behavioral, and substance use assessments to students (ages 10-18).
- Diagnose and manage substance use disorders and co-occurring mental/behavioral health issues in children and adolescents.
- Develop individualized care plans that include harm reduction, family engagement, and academic support coordination.
- Administer and manage medications, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, social workers, and administrators to support students' academic and social success.
- Engage families in care planning, education, and recovery support where appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention, brief counseling, and referrals to community-based behavioral health and addiction services.
- Conduct student and staff education on substance use prevention, coping strategies, and wellness.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews and contribute to school-wide wellness and prevention initiatives.
Preferred Experience:
- Master's or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in [State].
- Board certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
- DEA license and authorization to prescribe controlled substances.
- Completion of or willingness to obtain training in adolescent addiction treatment or certification in addiction nursing (e.g., CARN-AP).
- School health or adolescent behavioral health experience preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- At least 1-2 years providing care to youth in educational, public health, or behavioral health settings.
- Experience treating youth with trauma, substance use disorders, and mental health needs.
- Familiarity with SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment).
- Understanding of educational systems and family engagement in youth healthcare.
USD $69.54 - USD $90.00 /Hr.
