These interim positions perform beginning level technical work in various locations for fisheries, Wildlife Management Area (WMA), habitat management programs or research programs. This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.
Our Fish and Wildlife Technician I’s are eligible for paid leave, paid holidays, and employee discounts.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To- Transports fish and wildlife throughout state and releases them into appropriate habitat.
- Feeds, waters and cares for fish and wildlife while in care of the agency.
- Performs maintenance work on equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Assists biologists and other professionals in the execution of their duties.
- Interacts with public as assigned by supervisor.
- Learns to operate heavy and technical equipment (tractor, mowers, other agricultural equipment).
- Mows, weed eats, and performs landscaping.
- Learns to collect data concerning fish and wildlife and to prepare reports.
- Assists in the performance of soil and water tests and plants and cultivates agricultural crops to serve as food for wildlife.
- Assists in the creation and/or restoration of terrestrial and aquatic habitat through environmentally accepted construction and development practices.
- Assists in the identification and marking of boundaries of habitat and department held lands.
A majority of time may be spent working outside in inclement weather. Will be exposed to insects, snakes, and other harmful animals. Employees in this class will be required to operate various types of equipment used for general building maintenance and lawn maintenance. Incumbent should be able to bend, stoop, climb, crawl, and walk.
The ideal candidates for these positions will have a strong work ethic, work well with a team, be a self-starter as well as be adaptable and flexible.

Experience in fisheries or wildlife management will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
