As a Pre-Licensed Veterinary Technician, you'll gain hands-on clinical experience while completing your AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program, working alongside experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians in a collaborative teaching environment. You'll build essential technical and patient care skills while supporting exceptional care for a wide variety of animal patients across our hospital.

- Assist Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with physical exams, low-stress animal handling, and patient restraint.
- Prepare patients, exam rooms, and clinical spaces for procedures, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.
- Support patient care by administering oral medications, transporting animals, and organizing laboratory samples for diagnostic testing.
- Assist with patient admissions and discharges, helping provide a positive and welcoming experience for clients and their animals.
- Complete basic tasks in CUHA's electronic medical record (ezyVet), including placing diagnostic requests, documenting activities, and ordering clinical supplies.
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma with six months of basic animal handling experience or equivalent.
- Accepted and enrolled in an AVMA accredited associate's degree in veterinary technology distant learning program. The preferred program is SUNY Delhi with consideration to other programs, such as Penn Foster.
- Must successfully obtain Veterinary Technology degree within three years of employment with consistent enrollment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn, follow direction from Licensed Veterinary Technicians, ask clarifying questions, and apply constructive feedback.
- Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, patient behavior, common diseases, vaccinations, and laboratory procedures.
- Ability to learn and use veterinary software, including CUHA's electronic medical record system (ezyVet).
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing, kneeling, lifting, and safely restraining animals weighing more than 50 pounds.
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

Pay Range: $23.40 - $24.28
