Regional Wildlife Biologist – Landowner Sportsmen Coordinator

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking to fill an opening for Regional Wildlife Biologist – Landowner Sportsmen Coordinator located at our Salmon Regional office in Salmon.

• Regional Wildlife Biologists may be required to ride in fixed-wing and rotary wing aircraft. These positions involve walking and backpacking for several hours, operating trail bikes, and riding horses in rugged terrain; handling unsedated wild animals; working in extreme weather conditions; and lifting and carrying up to 65 pounds with or without accommodation.

As a regional wildlife biologist for the Salmon Region, you will be part of a dedicated wildlife team charged with implementation of regional and statewide management priorities for a variety of wildlife species and their habitats. The Salmon Region works under a district model and the positions primary responsibility will be the implementation of all wildlife management priorities within a defined geographic district.

In addition, this position will serve as the regional lead for the Landowner Sportsmen Coordinator program. They are expected to be the regional expert in the program and the point of contact for all statewide program communication.

• Respond to complaints and develop partnerships with farmers and ranchers experiencing wildlife depredations and provide solutions to minimize losses; design and implement data collection programs to estimate yield losses.
• Administer a private lands access program for hunters and fishermen and Landowner Appreciation Program.
• Supervise and train employees in depredation management and collection of data on wildlife use and crop damage.
• Design and implement wildlife population and habitat surveys to inform hunting and trapping seasons and technical service requests.
• Monitor wildlife movements and activities.
• Analyze wildlife population and habitat data and write reports.
• Communicate data on wildlife populations and habitats to both internal and external partners and organizations for technical service requests, hunting and harvest management, and for educational outreach.
