Veterinarian

Are you a skilled, passionate veterinarian looking to make a direct impact in the community? The City of Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department is looking for a high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) veterinarian to join our Community Clinic. In this role, you will provide efficient, compassionate care for cats and dogs, ensuring affordable spay/neuter and preventive care services reach families who need them most.

The Animal Welfare Department (AWD) is the largest shelter system in the state of New Mexico. We operate two shelter facilities and a stand-alone community spay/neuter clinic. We also operate a mobile preventive-care clinic van, extending our reach to neighborhoods across the city. We are looking for a veterinarian to work primarily with the public spay/neuter clinic and the mobile vaccine clinic, but some shelter work and other types of surgeries are possible depending on your interests.

You’ll work with an experienced, skilled and dedicated team of veterinary staff and shelter professionals who are deeply committed to the health and well-being of our city’s pets. We currently have six veterinarians on staff - there is always someone to consult with, discuss cases and back you up if needed! Our veterinarians typically work four 10-hour days per week, but scheduling can be flexible.

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department's mission is to protect the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement, and Service Excellence (CARES).

Must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM) and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of New Mexico.

Experience in the practice of veterinary medicine, public health or environmental health preferred.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid euthanasia technician license issued by the State of New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department within six (6) months from date of hire.
