The Landscape (Technician III) serves as a team leader supporting the mission of Asbury Theological Seminary by promoting attractive and functional landscapes that enhance the campus environment for students, staff, faculty, and administration. This role under the the Grounds Supervisor's guidance, leads and trains a small team in landscape maintenance operations including mulching, mowing, edging, pruning, irrigation work, and special grounds projects.

The Landscape Technician III coordinates team activities to ensure high-quality workmanship, operational efficiency, and safe work practices while completing assigned landscaping tasks.

Team Leadership and Operational Execution
  • Lead and guide team members in landscape maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate work assignments to ensure timely and effective completion of duties.
  • Provide on-the-job instruction and support to team members.
  • Promote teamwork and professional work practices.
Grounds and Landscape Maintenance
  • Oversee and assist with spreading hardwood mulch and pine straw.
  • Maintain stone and brick walkways, steps, borders, and retaining walls.
  • Fertilize trees and shrubs as part of landscape care initiatives.
  • Spread soil, grass seed, and straw to support turf health and development.
  • Mow grass and maintain clean edges around buildings, beds, curbs, and tree rings.
  • Prune and shear shrubs and small trees to promote healthy growth.
  • Remove weeds from landscape beds and maintain neat planting areas.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems as needed.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, and seasonal landscape materials.
  • Hard edge landscape beds and tree rings for clean and defined borders.
  • Remove leaves and organic debris from turf and landscape areas.
Equipment Operation and Safety
  • Operate landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, spreaders, and related tools.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and operational procedures for equipment use.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and report mechanical issues.
  • Promote safe work practices among team members.
Seasonal and Emergency Support
  • Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, parking lots, and campus areas.
  • Support seasonal grounds operations and special landscaping projects.
  • Respond to operational needs as directed by the supervisor.
Teamwork and Communication
  • Work effectively with team members and other landscaping personnel.
  • Communicate operational updates and task progress to the supervisor.
  • Foster a productive and respectful team environment.
Other duties
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned to support grounds operations.
Qualifications (Required / Preferred Skills)

Required Qualifications
  • Experience leading or coordinating team-based work preferred.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of landscaping equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping practices and safety procedures.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and move landscaping materials and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping tools and machinery.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed across various outdoor campus environments, including landscaped grounds, walkways, lawns, garden areas, and other exterior facilities throughout the campus.
  • Duties may involve exposure to weather variations, dust, landscaping materials, and equipment noise.
  • Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends depending on operational needs.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three to four years of landscape maintenance experience.
