Licensed Veterinary Technician – Equine Anesthesia

Are you an experienced equine veterinary technician interested in expanding your skills in anesthesia and perioperative care? We are looking for a licensed veterinary technician with horse-handling experience to join our equine anesthesia team.

Previous anesthesia experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to provide hands‑on training to the right licensed technician with a strong equine background, good communication skills, and a desire to learn.

In this role, you will work as part of a collaborative veterinary team providing anesthesia and perioperative care for equine patients.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing patients and equipment for anesthesia and surgery
• Assisting with induction, maintenance, and recovery from anesthesia
• Monitoring anesthetized horses and operating anesthesia monitoring equipment
• Working with anesthetic and emergency medications
• Assisting with mechanical ventilation and other advanced anesthesia equipment
• Preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia and surgical equipment
• Communicating closely with veterinarians, technicians, and other members of the patient‑care team
• Work closely with a board‑certified veterinary anesthesiologist
  , with opportunities for hands‑on learning, mentorship, and continued development of advanced anesthesia and patient‑care skills.

• Current veterinary technician license with eligibility to obtain Kentucky licensure
• Previous equine handling experience is preferred
• Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and medications
• Familiarity with anesthesia, monitoring, ventilators, and surgical equipment is preferred
• Previous equine anesthesia experience is a plus,
  but we will train the right candidate
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm, organized, and attentive in a fast‑paced clinical environment
• Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and remain standing for extended periods

This is a full‑time, primarily Monday–Friday daytime position with a consistent start time. Because patient care determines when our day ends, some flexibility in end time is required. Seasonal periods may also require overtime.

This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed technician who already loves working with horses and wants to develop advanced skills in equine anesthesia and perioperative patient care while working alongside an experienced veterinary team.
