Part-Time Park Groundskeeper-Concord

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine manual work in connection with the general and specific upkeep and maintenance of facilities and park grounds. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to a drug screen.

• Uses power equipment, i.e., tractor lawn mowers, grass cutters, etc. in the maintenance, mowing, raking, and cutting of grass in county parks.
• Uses various power and no-power tools in the trimming and/or removal of brush and trees in park areas.
• Makes repairs and cleans park building(s), facilities, mowing grass, removing litter/debris.
• Maintains paths, driveways and parking lots including sweeping of areas, snow removal and minor black top repair.
• Maintains, services, and makes minor adjustments to power tools.
• Paints and repairs park benches, bleacher seats etc.
• Makes minor repairs to parks equipment.
• Participates in grounds maintenance, including seasonal care of trees, shrubs, flowers, ground preparation for lawn rejuvenation, planning and fertilizing activities, including pesticide application of herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.

• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional, or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
• Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours.
• Perform other duties as required

• No experience required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid TN Driver’s License
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position

• Ability to focus and demonstrate great attention to detail.
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
• Ability to operate a variety of tools including but not limited to hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers and weed eaters

• This position requires the ability to engage in frequent heavy physical activity and occasional heavy physical activity.
• Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) that may consist of eye protection, ear protection, hard hats, gloves, etc.
• Must be physically able to perform the basic life operation functions of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
• Ability to engage in frequent physical activity such as bending, kneeling, squatting, standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. Operate a limited variety of power equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, weed eaters and groomers.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold, and hot weather conditions including precipitation.
• Risk of physical injury due to repetitive motions
• Exposure to sunlight for extended periods of time
