Kiptopeke State Park is accepting applications for a Volunteer Coordinator position.

The volunteer coordinator will be responsible for communicating with new and existing volunteers, with an emphasis on customer service and management; accurately maintaining forms, online databases, updating volunteer accounts, and tracking volunteer benefits. This position works directly with volunteers in both office and outdoor settings, oversees camp hosts, and directly supervises volunteer work at the park.

• Recruiting, onboarding, and training new volunteers.
• Working closely with park management to schedule, coordinate, and complete volunteer service projects both in the office and out in park.
• Training, and assisting camp hosts with various duties through the park.
• Supervising volunteer work directly in the field, including trail work, habitat restoration, and other park improvement projects.
• Supporting the park’s group volunteer partners, including Friends of Kiptopeke State Park, Virginia Master Naturalists, and other community organizations.
• Assisting volunteers with light construction, carpentry, grounds keeping, trail building, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate State Park facilities.
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather, standing for long periods, and carry, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs; unassisted.
• Position requires shift work to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

• Experience communicating with a strong emphasis on customer service and effective volunteer management.
• Experience maintaining forms, updating online databases, managing accounts, and tracking data.
• Experience working directly with volunteers in both office and outdoor settings.
• Experience overseeing park guest, providing direct supervision of others work performance throughout the park.
• Strong organizational skills in coordinating activities and supporting park operations.

• Prior experience working with volunteers.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience with volunteers, interns, or seasonal staff.

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
