Wilderness State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.

Job Summary:

Wilderness Road State Park, located in Ewing, Virginia, is hiring for the summer season! This is a great opportunity for individuals who are responsible, results-oriented, comfortable working without direct supervision, skilled at prioritizing tasks, and who interact positively with the public.

Key

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs recurring grounds care, facility, and equipment maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities.
• Cleaning park facilities; mowing grass; raking/removing leaf litter;trash and litter removal; painting;trail work; maintenance.
• Use f common hand tools.
• Working with other staff and volunteers on projects and special events;
• Providing information and customer service to park guests as needed; and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of hand and power tools
• General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, and maintenance functions
• Experience providing excellent customer service and being willing to work in a team environment.
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Have a Virginia driver's license.
• Must be willing to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Considerations:

• Experience with small engine repair, equipment operation, carpentry, and building trades.

• Employment Eligibility:
  Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements:
  Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

• DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
  • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
  • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
  • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
