Weatherford Equine Medical Center is looking for dependable seasonal employees to help care for and manage our large herd of recipient mares during breeding season.

This is a hands‑on, entry‑level position that can be a good fit for students or individuals looking for seasonal work around horses. Previous veterinary or reproductive experience is not required.

About the Position

Weatherford Equine maintains a large herd of recipient mares used in our embryo transfer program. These mares must be caught, sorted, moved, cared for, and presented for reproductive examinations throughout the breeding season.

Much of the work is outdoors and physical. More than anything, we need people who are dependable, willing to work, and able to follow an established system consistently.

Responsibilities
  • Catching and handling recipient mares
  • Moving and sorting mares between pens and pastures
  • Bringing mares in for reproductive examinations and procedures
  • Returning mares to the appropriate groups afterward
  • Helping maintain accurate organization and identification of mare groups
  • Feeding and providing routine horse care as assigned
  • Monitoring mares and reporting injuries, illness, or abnormalities
  • Cleaning and maintaining working areas, pens, and equipment
  • Assisting with gates, fencing, and basic facility tasks
  • General ranch and facility work as needed
Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate:

  • Shows up consistently and on time
  • Is comfortable working around horses
  • Can follow directions and established procedures
  • Is willing to perform repetitive physical work
  • Is comfortable working outdoors in Texas weather
  • Pays attention to horse identification and where mares belong
  • Can work independently once trained
  • Is willing to help wherever needed

Previous horse experience is preferred, but we may be willing to train the right person.

Schedule

This is a seasonal position during the equine breeding season.

Recipient mare care occurs seven days a week
, so schedules may include weekends and holidays depending on staffing and workload.

Exact hours and seasonal start and end dates will vary based on the needs of the facility.

A Good Entry Point Into Equine Reproduction

This position provides hands‑on experience within a large equine embryo transfer and recipient mare program without requiring previous veterinary training.

Dependable employees who demonstrate good horsemanship, initiative, and an interest in learning may have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities or return for future breeding seasons.
