HSE Specialist
The HSE Specialist's overall mission is to help ensure HSE compliance and incident prevention. Supporting operations in Burkesville, KY this role works across departmental lines to support safe production processes and foster a proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
Responsibilities & Duties- Be present on the manufacturing floor, seek to understand operational challenges, and be a sought-after resource for risk mitigation and HSE compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations and Kelvion standards. Assist Operations in understanding, planning, and execution.
- Coordinate safe work permit processes and job hazard analysis for high-risk activities (e.g., non-routine contractor work), ensuring proper risk controls and approvals are in place.
- Conduct regular audits, workplace inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and compliance gaps and solutions.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to integrate safety controls into equipment and processes (e.g., machine guarding, ventilation systems) and ensure safe and ergonomic conditions.
- Coordinate, develop, and deliver effective safety and environmental training.
- Lead incident investigations and facilitate root cause analysis.
- Perform or coordinate worker exposure monitoring.
- Serve as the liaison with state and federal agencies during inspections and coordinate all environmental sampling and reporting.
- Track, analyze, and report HSE performance metrics for site and corporate management review, highlighting progress and areas for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate emergency response planning and drills.
- Maintain required safety documentation and records to ensure accurate, up-to-date compliance reporting and audit readiness.
- Working knowledge of state and federal HSE regulations and industry standards (e.g. ISO, ANSI, NFPA)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a production environment.
- Building positive relationships and influencing stakeholders.
- Manufacturing process understanding.
- Strong computer skills, including data analysis, using AI for predictive analytics, and reporting of metrics.
- Continuous improvement mindset, with a demonstrated commitment to cultivating a positive safety culture across the organization.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety preferred, or 5-10 years of industrial experience, HSE certifications, and a proven track record of performing HSE functions in lieu of safety degree.
- Associate or Certified Safety Professional preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry or Construction) preferred.
- First Aid/CPR DOT First Responder Level preferred.
