Position Summary The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections of sprinkler products to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This role verifies product conformity throughout manufacturing, identifies defects and nonconformances, documents inspection results, and supports continuous improvement efforts to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality products. The Quality Inspector is expected to make inspection and product acceptance decisions based on engineering drawings, specifications, and approved procedures rather than verbal instructions, assumptions, or historical practices.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Perform in-process, final, and package product inspections throughout manufacturing operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, travelers, work instructions, control plans, and quality procedures.
- Verify product characteristics, assembly configurations, markings, orientations, dimensions, and critical features against engineering requirements.
- Inspect product components including deflectors, frames, bulbs, links, hooks, struts, buttons, seals, threads, coatings, labels, and packaging.
- Verify product identification, part numbers, date codes, temperature ratings, and labeling accuracy.
- Ensure product assemblies meet documented workmanship and acceptance standards.
- Use inspection equipment such as thread ring gauges, paint cards, QA stamps, and other quality verification tools.
- Verify dimensional, visual, and functional requirements according to established standards and acceptance criteria.
- Conduct audits of production processes to verify compliance with procedures and quality requirements.
- Ensure inspection and acceptance decisions are based on documented requirements and current revisions of drawings and specifications.
- Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming material, product defects, and process deviations.
- Initiate or support containment activities when nonconforming conditions are discovered.
- Stop and escalating quality concerns that could impact customer requirements, product performance, or regulatory compliance.
- Review work orders, travelers, labels, and packaging documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Verify pallet quantities, product traceability, and shipment readiness.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.
- Assist with investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required.
- Work closely with production, engineering, manufacturing support, and quality personnel to resolve quality issues.
- Follow all quality system requirements and company safety policies.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, travelers, and work instructions.
- Understanding of dimensional tolerances, engineering notes, and revision control.
- Ability to compare manufactured products to blueprint requirements and identify nonconformances.
- Knowledge of manufacturing inspection techniques and quality principles.
- Ability to accurately use inspection equipment, gauges, and measuring devices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and nonconforming conditions.
