Job SummaryHelp Advance Cultural Heritage Research Through Imaging, AI, and Computer Vision. The University of Kentucky is seeking a Computer Vision Engineer to join the Educe Lab research team within the Department of Computer Science. This position supports cutting-edge research at the intersection of computer vision, artificial intelligence, imaging science, and cultural heritage preservation. The successful candidate will develop imaging workflows, design software solutions, support advanced research infrastructure, and help drive innovation in the lab’s heritage science AI initiatives.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Develop software and AI-driven tools for image capture, volumetric data processing, and visualization
- Design and implement applications for photogrammetry, multi-camera systems, and automated imaging workflows
- Build Python-based pipelines for image processing, micro-CT reconstruction, metadata management, and data analysis
- Develop and optimize algorithms for segmentation, mesh generation, texture mapping, and computer vision applications
- Manage and support advanced imaging hardware, including cameras, lighting systems, and CT equipment
- Create and maintain technical documentation, protocols, and workflow standards
- Process and integrate 3D surface, volumetric, and analytical datasets
- Support outreach activities, laboratory demonstrations, recruitment events, and research presentations
- Experience with computer vision, imaging systems, or scientific computing
- Strong Python programming and software development skills
- Knowledge of AI, machine learning, and data analysis techniques
- Experience with photogrammetry, spectral imaging, micro-CT, or related imaging technologies
- Familiarity with 3D data processing, visualization, and computational workflows
- Strong technical communication and project management skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a research environment

In this role, you’ll help build the technologies and infrastructure that enable groundbreaking research while working alongside experts who are pushing the boundaries of imaging, visualization, and AI-driven discovery.
Skills/ Knowledge / Abilities
- Scientific imaging (e.g. spectral photography, X-ray CT, photogrammetry), especially for heritage applications
- Scientific laboratory equipment and safety procedures
- AI applications in heritage science, specifically to micro-CT images
