Research Scientist, Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Yajima lab at the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry (MCB) at Brown University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead one or more projects in our research group. The PhD students graduating next year are also encouraged to apply.
We study embryonic development using sea urchin embryos as a model system, focusing on
1) asymmetric cell division,
2) metabolic regulation,
3) localized mRNA translation, and
4) the impact of cell geometry on fate regulation, using both wet lab and dry/theoretical experiments. The position is primarily for wet lab work, but many projects also involve multi-omics analyses and mathematical modeling, which will be supported by our computational biologists and applied math collaborators in the group.
This position is ideal for those seeking an independent faculty role after postdoctoral training. Required qualifications include extensive expertise in embryology, including microinjection and advanced confocal microscopy (time-lapse imaging, optogenetics, and image segmentation analysis), as well as relevant publications in high-quality journals. Prior fellowship experience and motivation to apply for fellowships to support independence are highly encouraged; lab funds are available as needed to fill fellowship gaps toward their independence.
