The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term® (HEAL) Initiative are seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as a Program Director for Pain Research
.
Position Overview
The Program Director will manage and oversee NINDS's research portfolio related to pain and associated conditions, including neuropathic pain, migraine, and pain associated with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease
.
The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists and administrators to develop and implement research initiatives, manage grant portfolios, and serve as a scientific liaison with other federal agencies, scientific organizations, and the public.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing and implementing research initiatives related to pain and associated conditions.
- Managing and overseeing grant portfolios in pain research, including reviewing applications, and monitoring the progress of awards.
- Providing scientific and programmatic leadership in pain research and representing NINDS at scientific meetings and workshops.
- Collaborating with other federal agencies, scientific organizations, and the public to promote pain research and develop partnerships.
- Working with NINDS staff to ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations and policies.
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff members.

Qualifications:
- Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in pain research, with a strong record of scientific publications and grant funding.
- Strong knowledge of pain research and related disciplines, including neuroscience, immunology, and pharmacology.
- Experience in program management, grant administration, and scientific review.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and organizations.
