What You Will DoWe are looking for a Scientist to support the National Institute on Aging (NIA) research program through independent scientific investigations, laboratory operations, data analysis, and scientific communications. This is a full-time position located in Baltimore, MD. Provide scientific and technical expertise, training, and guidance to visiting fellows, post-doctoral researchers, technicians, and laboratory staff on laboratory instruments, equipment, scientific techniques, independent experiment execution, and data analysis.
Design, conduct, and oversee scientific experiments requiring broad knowledge of biological and scientific principles, supporting research in chromatin remodeling, gene regulation, neurodevelopment, neurodegeneration, aging, protein complex purification and analysis, and related molecular mechanisms using laboratory animal models and cell-based systems. Conduct statistical, bioinformatics, and data analyses; interpret experimental findings with researchers and laboratory staff; review scientific data and literature to assess feasibility of new research programs and projects;
and develop innovative research approaches. Evaluate, implement, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and oversee laboratory techniques, instrumentation, equipment, and software to improve research capabilities, instrument utilization, and standard operating procedures. Manage scientific resources, laboratory supplies, reagents, biological samples, associated documentation, electronic laboratory notebooks, and accurate, up-to-date research records. Support laboratory animal research activities, including protocol preparation, approval processes, and staff training related to animal care and use.
Prepare, produce, and communicate research documents and findings, including technical reports, manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, posters, research reports, and other scientific communications for staff, collaborators, laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, symposia, and professional meetings. Coordinate laboratory projects, prioritize instrument utilization, support collaboration among research teams, participate in group meetings and laboratory discussions, and contribute to strategic planning activities. Provide scientific guidance and recommendations to laboratory leadership and management and support grant portfolio activities, proposal reviews, and scientific program analyses as assigned.

- Ph.D. in Biology or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of TEN (10) years’ experience conducting biological research in a laboratory environment.
- Hands‑on background with animal handling, including Drosophila and
C. elegans. - Knowledge of biochemical, genetic, genomic, molecular biology, cell biology, and bioinformatics research methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis, scientific interpretation, and research documentation.
- Skilled in preparing technical reports, manuscripts, scientific presentations, and research publications.
- Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and train others on scientific instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary research teams while managing independent research activities.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.
