Department of Biomedical Engineering

The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead innovative research projects focused on the intersection of advanced computational methods development, multi-omics modeling, and complex inflammatory disease biology in the Brubaker Lab. The position offers opportunity for advanced training in interdisciplinary science, translational research, and research computing. The scholar will execute on a portfolio of funded projects in the lab. These include but are not limited to: systems immunology, gut and vaginal microbiome pharmacology, translation modeling, women's health, and other areas as scientific scope and funding allow.

Case Western Reserve University, Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a postdoctoral scholar position. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewing for an additional year.

Responsibilities and Duties:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Technology and Methodology Development: Independently develop and optimize novel computational and analytical methods, including unsupervised learning, classifier development and testing, and development of advanced multi-modal data integration and analysis techniques. (40%).

Data Integration and Analysis: Conduct rigorous analysis of multimodal data across the scholar’s primary project, support other funded projects in the lab, and develop new directions of interest to the Scholar’s career development. (30%)

Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate within an interdisciplinary research environment, provide mentorship to junior lab personnel, and actively participate in team-driven research projects (20%).

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lab Organization and Other Duties: Assist in the general maintenance of the laboratory, development of grant proposals and manuscripts, and organization as needed (10%).

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.

Experience: Demonstrated experience with developing advanced computational workflows to handle heterogeneous biological datasets.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Experience developing or utilizing advanced computational modeling techniques on heterogeneous biological datasets.

Proficiency in single-cell RNA sequencing, high-dimensional data analysis, bioinformatics tools, and programming languages (R, Python).

Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot complex workflows.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret and integrate complex datasets.

Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.

Strong record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Excellent written and oral communication skills; capable of clearly presenting complex scientific data and collaborating effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable, and a self-starter.

Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment.

Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

Familiarity with policies and procedures of lab and adhere to chemical and biological safety and manage them.

Ability to meet consistent attendance.

Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary.

Must be eligible to work in the United States.

In compliance with the City of Cleveland's Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $62,652. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
