Job Description Summary

Supports research projects by conducting experiments or studies, collecting and analyzing data, and maintaining research tools, equipment, or project resources. Contributes to study design, documentation, and reporting, and collaborates with investigators and staff to ensure projects are carried out effectively and in compliance with established protocols.

Job Responsibilities

The Research Specialist B will conduct experiments related to organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, and post-synthesis modification of peptides and peptide derivatives, including their characterization, extraction, purification, and analysis. The position will support the design, synthesis, and optimization of peptide therapeutics and work closely with computational team members to support peptide discovery, design, and optimization. The candidate will perform biophysical assays and will also learn and perform wet-lab assays, including basic microbiology and cell culture assays, and assist with animal models as needed to evaluate the anti-infective activity of therapeutic peptides.

Additional responsibilities include mentoring and assisting other laboratory members, organizing experiments, maintaining equipment and workstations, and supporting the operation of the peptide laboratory.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Prior laboratory experience is required, with 1-3 years of relevant experience in organic chemistry, peptide synthesis, purification, characterization, or related areas preferred. A PhD in chemistry, chemical biology, bioengineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
