The Barista Missionary plays a central role in fulfilling our mission by creating a welcoming environment that reflects the love of Christ, building genuine relationships with customers, and serving high-quality beverages with excellence. This role combines professional barista responsibilities with a heart for ministry, acting as a daily representative of the Gospel through service, hospitality, and intentional presence in the cafe.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Represent and advance The Well Coffee House’s mission by presenting a positive, professional, friendly and welcoming presence to customers and among staff.
  • Greet all customers warmly, identify their food or drink interests and needs, and build meaningful connections when appropriate.
  • Educate customers on different drink and food options and preparation methods; clearly communicate details such as blends and ingredients.
  • Memorize cup codes and properly mark each order with accuracy.
  • Promote new and existing products as well as initiatives to attract and retain customers.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages (e.g., espresso drinks, teas, blended beverages) following established recipes and techniques.
  • Prepare and properly handle food items.
  • Maintain inventory by restocking supplies with proper methods, communicate needs proactively.
  • Operate, clean, and troubleshoot equipment; perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation standards to maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment.
  • Clean and sanitize work spaces, utensils, dishes and customer seating areas regularly.
  • Accurately handle money and transactions with safety and integrity.
  • Memorize and execute opening and closing procedures.
  • Learn about monthly nonprofits, events and promotions and accurately share with customers.
  • Continue developing professionally by staying informed about coffee trends and participating in training opportunities, events and evangelism training/opportunities.
Probationary Period

All new Barista Missionaries will go through a two-week (80 hours) probationary period upon hiring. During this time, the barista will earn minimum wage while doing the following:

  • Receive basic training in barista skills, customer service, evangelism and cafe procedures.
  • Be evaluated on attitude, teachability, teamwork, and alignment with our mission and values.
  • Have regular check-ins with a supervisor to ensure mutual clarity and direction.

At the end of the probationary period, the manager will meet with the team member to assess readiness for full onboarding or provide feedback for potential next steps.
