The Swarthmore Co-op is an award-winning specialty food co-op market in Delaware County looking for a creative new Deli Operations Coordinator. The Deli Operations Coordinator oversees daily counter operations, food production, and food safety standards for our $800K per year deli. This role requires a hands-on leader who balances exceptional customer service in an upscale marketplace, technical proficiency, culinary creativity and a commitment to top quality food. This role drives sales through menu development and promotions, and building customer traffic. Supervises a high-performing team.
Whatyou’ll be responsible for:
- Menu Creativity & Promotions: Bring fresh, creative ideas to the table by developing weekly menu recommendations and designing attractive product promotions to increase sales.
- Supervision & Leadership: Lead daily shifts, assign tasks to counter staff, train new staff, and resolve customer service issues directly.
- Food Safety Compliance: Enforce high sanitation and food safety standards, and maintain compliance with all related state and federal laws. Be familiar with the safe use of kitchen equipment, including knives and slicers, panini presses, fryers, etc.
- Business Technology: Use POS systems, email, and online ordering tools to manage daily transactions.
- Inventory Control: Aid in inventory control, any necessary stock counts, place vendor orders, and track product margins to prevent food waste.
- Education: Associate’s degree in related discipline OR formal culinary training/schooling required. Excellent communication skills needed.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated supervisory experience (e.g., Shift Supervisor, Team Lead) in direct food preparation and customer service. Proven coaching and supervisory skills are a must.

Highly comfortable using basic business software, including spreadsheets, scheduling apps, databases. Some exposure to introduction of new technology projects into food retail desired. - Physical Ability: Capable of standing for longer periods, bending, turning, safely lifting up to 25 pounds, and utilizing necessary kitchen equipment and related facilities.
