# Part-Time Cook Assist Home Office - Lapeer, MI 48446## Description
** Major Duties and Responsibilities
** 1. Confers with Food Service Director and/or Dietary Supervisors about the preparation of food for meals and assists in estimating quantities needed
2. Prepares foods listed on menus using safe food handling methods
3. Responsible for taste and quality of finished product
4. Assures that food is served and held at the proper time, correct temperature, and consistency
5. Makes advance preparation for the next day as directed by Food Service Director/Dietary Supervisor
6. Assists in the training of new employees
7. Keeps records of daily food usage and notifies supervisor of supply needs when appropriate
8. Cleans own work area
9. Prepares and serves meals in PODs and dining room
10. Records food temperatures prior to meal service
11. Takes corrective action for temperatures in the “Danger Zone” and notifies supervisor
** Physical Requirements/Risk Exposure
** 1. Pushing & pulling of heavy carts up to 225 pounds
2. Daily lifting of 50 pounds (if any product is more than weight limit two people will work together to achieve goals/ and or break down into smaller increments example: large mixing bowl from mixer)3. Ability to perform other common physical movements as needed for the position
4. Standing for shifts lasting from 5hrs-11hrs / or greater if voluntarily picking up shifts
5. Exposure to hot and cold temperature extremes.  Works with a variety of appliances, kitchen utensils and cleaning products
6. Tasks assigned to this position involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids## Qualifications
** Required Qualifications
** 1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred but not required
2. 3 years of experience cooking in a health care facility preferred
3. Thorough knowledge of the application of quantity food preparation, techniques, and practices
4. Thorough knowledge of kitchen sanitation, personal hygiene, food handling, and storage practices
5. Serv Safe Certification preferred (post hire)6. Knowledge of therapeutic diets
7. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
8. Must be able to read, follow oral directions and write legibly
9. Must be honest, trustworthy and possess tolerance for all individuals
10. Must be able to communicate with other departments
11. Must have good physical and mental health. You will fill out an employee health history
12. Must be able to work with little or no supervision
13. Able to work with employees, residents, families, physicians, therapists, and consultants
14. Must be able to handle multiple tasks with interruptions
15. Must have a pleasant personality and good telephone skills
** Staff Development
** 1. Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes, as required
2. Attend and complete monthly mandatory in-services and online education assignments
