** STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
** Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being.

In performing this mission, the BIE takes into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of school-aged children within their family and tribal community. To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally; to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.

Responsibilities:
• Assists in the preparation of food, serving of meals, preparation of snacks and sack lunches, and cleaning of the kitchen and dining facilities.  
• Prepares, in quantity, menu items for each meal including use of new or complex recipes. Prepares pre-packaged or canned foods, salads, desserts, and instant mixes. Prepares menu items that require extended preparation time or many steps or ingredients. Adjusts recipes to provide number of servings needed and plans, coordinates and times steps required to have menu items ready to serve at mealtime.

• Assists or oversees the preparation of sack lunches, sick trays, dormitory snacks or other special food requests.  
• Assists in the cleaning of kitchen equipment and appliances. Assures that all areas of the food service operation, including surrounding outer areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Assists in maintaining sanitation regulations to prevent health hazards to staff, students, and others.  
• Assists with unloading food and kitchen supplies. Assures that rotation of food items is properly accomplished, and that storage of frozen, refrigerated, and dry storage items are stored in designated areas in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.  
• Assists in washing dishes, loading and unloading dishwasher, stacking and storing dishes, and assures proper care and maintenance of the dishwashing equipment.
