SUMMARY

Assist the store manager in planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of store operations to ensure continued growth and profitability.
The manager must assist in implementing the basic guidelines of:

  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Marketing
  • Profitability

Manage all perishable department operations. All perishable department managers report to the Assistant Store Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

It is every manager's responsibility to adhere to the Tops vision of providing a friendly neighborhood store that saves the customer time and money. In order to achieve the Tops vision, the following responsibilities must be fulfilled.

Maintain the basic store operations:

  • Quality “ Insure only the finest, freshest product possible
  • Housekeeping “ Provide a clean and safe environment for customers and associates.
  • Stock levels and Variety “ Insure product is available with a wide selection of products .
  • Clear Correct Pricing “ All products must have one clearly marked price that corresponds correctly with the price displayed at check-out.
  • Customer Service “ Assure total customer satisfaction through courteous, prompt and effective customer service.
  • Practice basics of profit control (merchandising follow through, cost control and shrink control)
  • Communicate with perishable department managers frequently.
  • Reduce total store shrink and meet or exceed shrink budget in all departments.
  • Ensure complete and proper execution of the KLT program as outlined for all departments, including reaction to high-shrink items.
  • Check all logs, weekly for each perishable department (SIR 380, Profit and Loss statement, KLT, CAO, Project Renew, FIM, and Shrink)
  • Actively lead in the perishable inventory.
  • Act quickly and accurately if any problems arise, due to the sensitivity of perishable products.
  • Review all production and/ or merchandising planning weekly for each perishable department to insure accuracy and profitability.
  • Assess effectiveness and productivity of perishable departments and store personnel .
  • Monitor scheduling in relationship to store conditions and makes appropriate adjustments or recommendations.
  • Consult with department managers about personnel problems and training.
  • Check that safety and sanitation procedures are followed and that working conditions are safe and clean.
  • Complete appropriate injury investigations and complete reporting form when required.
  • Demonstrate understanding of store priorities, anticipate change and show initiative in problem solving.
  • Participate in necessary meetings.
  • Weekly team meetings to review sales numbers by department, margin, shrink expenses, planned promotions, etc.
  • Internal Critical Care meetings each period.
  • Monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Act as Manager on Duty when needed, responsible for knowing all opening and closing procedures and enforcing all proper operating procedure throughout the store to create a positive work environment for associates and a positive shopping experience for the customer at all times.
  • Perform delegated Store Manager responsibilities when the store manager is absent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School Education, College background helpful but not required
  • 3-5 years retail experience preferred
  • Ability to work in multiple stores within the district/ region based on the needs of the business
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math functions.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of store management and operations.
  • Business Insight/ Problem Solving, Communication Skills, Delegation, Flexibility, Human Relation Skills, Leadership, Management Control, Planning and Organization Initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of Company SOPs, as well as the ability to make decisions and provide effective leadership.
