We are looking for an Entry-Level Commercial Life-Safety Sales Representative to help grow recurring service sales, including fire alarm monitoring, elevator cellular services, inspections, maintenance agreements, and related compliance-based life-safety services.
This role is ideal for someone who is early in their career, eager to learn, comfortable talking with customers, organized with follow-up, and interested in building a long-term future in a technical, code-driven industry.
The successful candidate will start with a strong base of training, mentoring, and support. As experience, product knowledge, and sales results grow, the position is intended to grow as well, including the opportunity for increased base compensation and expanded responsibility over time.
What You’ll Do Recurring Service Sales and Customer Follow-Up- Respond to commercial prospects, customer referrals, renewal opportunities, and assigned recurring-service sales leads.
- Contact customers promptly and professionally.
- Schedule and perform site visits or walkthroughs when needed.
- Ask good questions to understand customer needs related to monitoring, inspections, elevator cellular services, maintenance contracts, compliance concerns, budget issues, and renewal timelines.
- Follow up consistently on open quotes, pending decisions, revised proposals, and customer questions.
- Build trust with property managers, owners, contractors, and commercial customers by being responsive, organized, and practical..
- Help identify opportunities for recurring services such as fire alarm monitoring, sprinkler inspections, extinguisher inspections, emergency lighting inspections, backflow testing, fire pump testing, hydrant inspections, elevator cellular services, and preventive maintenance agreements.
- Learn how to gather basic customer and building information needed to prepare accurate service proposals.
- Recognize common monitoring gaps, inspection needs, expired service agreements, maintenance concerns, and compliance issues that should be reviewed by management or technical staff.
- Work with internal sales, service, inspection, monitoring, and management teams to make sure customers receive accurate information and clear service recommendations.
- Prepare clear, organized proposals for recurring commercial life-safety services.
- Separate one-time installation or setup costs from recurring monitoring, inspection, or maintenance costs when needed.
- Focus on services such as fire alarm monitoring, elevator cellular services, fire sprinkler inspections, extinguisher inspections, emergency lighting inspections, backflow testing, fire pump testing, hydrant inspections, standpipe inspections, and maintenance contracts.
- Help customers understand what is required, what is optional, what is excluded, and what may depend on AHJ review or field conditions.
- Review complex or code-sensitive quotes with management before sending.
- Build working knowledge of commercial fire alarm, monitoring, sprinkler, inspection, and life-safety systems.
- Learn how Best Defense scopes, prices, presents, and renews recurring service agreements.
- Participate in assigned training, including fire alarm and life-safety training as appropriate.
- Develop the ability to recognize when additional technical or management review is needed.
- Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply; prior fire protection or life-safety sales experience is helpful but not required.
- Strong follow-up habits and the ability to manage multiple open opportunities at the same time.
- Excellent customer communication skills by phone, email, and in person.
- Ability to gather customer information, document details, take photos when needed, and communicate findings clearly.
- Comfort working with property managers, building owners, general contractors, electrical contractors, inspectors, and internal technical staff.
