Century Aluminum is hiring for an environment specialist to join our team and contribute to our continued success and growth in the aluminum industry.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree with major in environmental studies emphasis in general earth and physical sciences, or similar discipline. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. Understanding of environmental sampling procedures. Knowledge of field quality assurance is necessary to ensure the integrity of the data/samples collected.
Responsibilities- Learn, accept and live Century Aluminum’s Purpose, Vision, and Value Statements.
- Conducts all routine environmental compliance testing and reporting, including surface and groundwater sampling, soil sampling, and ambient air tapes. Conduct all regulatory compliance monitoring and sampling in accordance with required methods and standards, to include air, water, waste, wildlife, etc. Interface with state regulatory agencies, physical sampling, field inspections and audits.
- Communicates the results of environmental audits to determine compliance with internal company standards and external statutory standards established by government agencies.
- Conducts non-routine sampling for special project data collection.
- Performs calibration and maintenance of all environmental laboratory, and field-testing equipment, and associated records.
- Maintains inventory of technical supplies
- The incumbent is responsible for the proper disposition of hazardous waste as determined by the technical team and/or the technical team leader. The incumbent must undergo annual training in hazardous waste disposal, Department of Transportation requirements in hazardous waste shipments.
- Conducts environmental audits to determine compliance with internal company standards and external statutory standards established by government agencies.
