About the Opportunity

Copperhead Environmental Consulting is expanding our team and actively seeking a Wildlife Biologist II to join our family of professional consultants. The role focuses on a long‑term career in the environmental consulting industry with potential for additional projects. The position is full‑time, exempt, and salaried, dedicated to a specific long‑term project with opportunities to work on other projects during interim periods.

It may be based in Copperhead’s headquarters in Paint Lick, Kentucky, or as a hybrid role in Asheville, NC.

• Perform technical writing, including biological assessments, evaluations, NEPA documentation, and survey reports.
• Evaluate proposed projects through the lens of ESA and NEPA compliance, identify design features, and assess impacts on species and their habitat.
• Successfully complete various surveys—bats, birds, insects, fish, mussels, plants, wetlands, and more—and analyze survey data.
• Assist with proposal development and project scoping.
• Participate in client coordination calls and in‑person meetings.
• Collect data and perform data analysis.
• Travel as needed for team and client meetings, field work, and other project requirements.
• Maintain and care for field data and specimens.
• Handle equipment and vehicle maintenance, preparation, and decontamination.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology or a closely related field of study.
• At least 4–6 years of progressive experience in biological surveys and resource management.
• Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Experience performing as part of an interdisciplinary team of planners and resource experts.
• Strong wildlife and plant identification skills; applicable USFWS and/or state permits for completing surveys are a plus.
• Experience conducting avian surveys will receive top consideration.
• Experience with wildlife species and habitats of the Southern Appalachians is a plus.
• Ability to take initiative, resolve problems, and ensure tasks are completed safely and effectively.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks efficiently.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR/AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications are a plus. Copperhead will provide certification opportunities upon employment; individuals must earn and retain these certifications to remain employed.
