Job Summary

The Neural Plasticity, Rehabilitation & Movement Dynamics Lab at the University of Utah is seeking a full-time staff-level Research Engineer. This individual will work across a variety of funded research studies focused on improving arm and hand function after stroke. The role will include collecting and analyzing human biomechanical and neurophysiological data, providing technical data management and quality control support for ongoing clinical trials using brain stimulation, and designing and building custom devices and equipment to support human‑subject data collection.

The position will include collaborative interactions with other funded research and collaborators at the University of Utah, including those in Mechanical Engineering. This is grant funded position. One-year contract that is renewable based on the availability of funds and performance. Funding is expected to be available for at least 4 years.

Responsibilities
  • Completed a masters degree in biomedical or electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Has a working knowledge of LAB View.
  • Well-versed in MATLAB .
  • Decent knowledge in signal processing and Arduino programming.
  • Preferable experience in other programming languages such as PYTHON , and C++ is beneficial.
  • Handle sensitive data in a professional manner that complies with all confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively (both verbally and in writing) with colleagues, other members of the research team, and Principal Investigator.
  • Must be able to work independently while exhibiting a level of judgment that ensures participant safety and adherence to study protocols and procedures.
  • Flexibility in scheduling work hours around patients schedule, as rates of recruitment span and fluctuate across the calendar year. This could include working on weekend and holidays, if necessary.
Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Research Scientist, I: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Research Scientist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Research Scientist, III : Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
