Water Quality Specialist / San Gabriel Valley Water Company

Under the supervision of the Director of Water Resources and Water Quality Superintendent, oversees the water quality monitoring in the Los Angeles County division to ensure compliance with all state and federal drinking water standards.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties which may include, but would not be limited to the following:
• Schedule and perform water quality sampling.
• Report monitoring results to appropriate regulatory agencies.
• Prepare and submit written technical reports on water quality, operation of treatment facilities, and other related issues to the Drinking Water Program of the State Water Resources Control Board, and other agencies.
• Attend workshops, meetings, and seminars on water quality issues and related matters.
• Assist in the preparation of the Annual Water Quality Report.
• Assist in the preparation and updating of the company’s Public Health Goal Reports, Consumer Confidence Reports, and similar reports and plans.
• Assist in monitoring the company’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System compliance program.
• Review and audit laboratory reports and invoices.
• Archive and maintain all water quality related data and documents.
• Give oral presentations regarding water quality.
• Other tasks and duties as directed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to:
• Thorough knowledge of federal and state drinking water regulations and familiarity with SDWA, CWA, CEQA, NPDES, AQMD, and other environmental standards.
• Ability to work effectively with Operations Department personnel, regulatory agencies, and the public in a cooperative and professional manner.
• Proficient with using office equipment and computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to write legibly.
• Have good reading skills and ability to quickly comprehend.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and have good attendance.
• Neat and presentable appearance.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical activities using feet, legs, hands, and arms, and be able to use keyboard, walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb stairs and heights up to 40 feet, reach, grasp, lift up to 50 lbs., push, pull, crouch, squat, crawl, and twist.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

The following are required:

• Valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Grades T2 Water Treatment Operator and D1 Water Distribution Operator certificates.
• College degree or equivalent work experience in the field of water quality desirable.
