We are looking for a self‑motivated, energetic Safety & Security Guard who possesses the desire to care for Kentucky’s Veterans.

• Safely transports residents to medical appointments and other authorized appointments.
• Performs required security services for Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.
• Patrols facility’s building and grounds to prevent trespassing, theft, fire, and other hazards.
• Performs traffic control and monitors driveway and parking areas to ensure compliance with facility policies.
• Inspects and monitors storage, making sure all safety hazards in resident and staff areas are corrected.
• Assists with lawn and general building maintenance, including but not limited to painting, mowing, and other duties as assigned.

Education: High school graduate.

Experience, Training, or

Skills:

Must have two years of military, security guard/officer, safety, corrections, or law enforcement experience.

Experience:

Substitute Experience for

Education:

Additional experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) to qualify for employment. Must furnish the agency’s appointing authority with documentation of a valid CDL within six months of appointment. Must maintain any required licensure, certification, or other credentials for the length of employment.

Incumbents must be able to work extended hours, perform work outdoors during inclement weather, and respond to emergencies 24/7.

This position has an initial probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
