Police Officer

Compensation: $70,200- $104,977 per year (based on experience) Primary Purpose Patrols, investigates, monitors, and resolves emergencies, high-risk situations, and potential and existing breaches in security, while enforcing established policies to provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

• Certification/Registration/Licensure:
  Must be licensed as a Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement TCLEOSE Tx Law Enforce Officer Std Edu .
• Must meet and maintain eligibility standards for licensing as a Texas Peace Officer.
• Must have a valid Driver License and obtain a Texas Driver License within 30 days of employment.
• Required Tests for Placement:
  Applicants as of May 23, 2018 must pass with a minimum overall score of 70% or above the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.S.T.) prior to hire.
• Applicants with three or more years of experience with less than a 180-day break in service are exempt from requirement to take and pass the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.ST.) prior to hire.
• Applicants with three or more years of experience with less than a 180-day break in service are exempt from requirement to successfully pass a physical agility assessment prior to hire.
• Employees in this job who were hired on or before 03/29/14 are exempt from requirement to take/pass the typing test and physical agility assessment.

• Must be able to pass typing test with a minimum of 20 words per minute, with no more than three errors.
• Must successfully pass a physical agility assessment.
• Must pass a pre-employment polygraph and psychological evaluation.
• May be subject to further written and/or oral pre-employment testing.
• Must be able to follow, practice and utilize the Peace Officer Weapons Standard and Qualification General Order to ensure the safety of officers, hospital staff, patients and visitors.
• Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must have the ability to deal with PHHS staff and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
• Must be able to make sound judgments.
• Must be able to testify in court to present case facts.

• Patrols assigned areas to discover, respond to, and resolve safety and security events, while adhering to established policies and practices to maximize security throughout the District campuses, buildings and assets.
• Conducts initial investigations to identify, resolve, and minimize potential or existing breaches in security.
• Identifies the need for crime scene protection, and takes the necessary preservation steps pending the arrival of the supervisor and/or investigator.
• Responds to emergencies, simple and complex high-risk service calls and reported security and safety hazards.
• Follows and enforces established laws, policies and procedures to ensure that proper steps are taken to resolve the situation.
• Compiles and prepares accurate and timely reports consistent with internal practice and as required by law.
• Initiates appropriate processes diligently to ensure that identification badges, access control and parking violations are handled promptly.
• Maintains a positive working relationship with employees, police/fire departments, various agencies, and the public to ensure that communications and procedures are carried out in an effective and professional manner.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impacts or governs the department.
• Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws.
• Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
• Stays abreast of the latest advancements and trends in the police and security field by attending seminars/workshops and reading professional journals.
