About the Position

DC Liquor Store is seeking qualified Armed Special Police Officers (SPOs) for immediate hire to provide professional security at a busy liquor store in Washington, DC.

This is a high-traffic retail security position requiring officers who are alert, dependable, professional, and comfortable dealing with a wide range of situations. Officers will be responsible for maintaining a strong security presence, protecting customers and employees, monitoring for suspicious activity, and responding appropriately to security incidents.

The ideal candidate has experience working in retail, loss prevention, liquor stores, or other busy environments and understands how to handle potential theft, disturbances, trespassing, and difficult or intoxicated individuals while remaining calm and professional.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain a visible and professional armed security presence.
  • Monitor the store, entrances, exits, and surrounding areas.
  • Watch for suspicious activity, theft, safety concerns, and disturbances.
  • Protect customers, employees, merchandise, and property.
  • Respond appropriately to suspected shoplifting and other security incidents.
  • Understand and follow lawful procedures for stops, detentions, and security interventions.
  • Take action only when legally authorized and consistent with applicable law, company policy, and post orders.
  • Use communication and de-escalation techniques when appropriate.
  • Remain calm and professional when dealing with angry, intoxicated, aggressive, or uncooperative individuals.
  • Contact management or law enforcement when appropriate.
  • Complete accurate incident reports and documentation.
  • Follow all site post orders, policies, and supervisor instructions.
  • Maintain strong situational awareness throughout the shift.
  • Report safety and security concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Required Qualifications
  • Must have an active/current SPO license or registration required to perform armed security duties in Washington, DC.
  • Must possess all required armed-security credentials and permits.
  • Must be legally qualified and authorized to perform armed security duties.
  • Must understand the legal limits of security-officer authority.
  • Must understand lawful procedures involving suspected theft, stops, detentions, trespassing, and contacting law enforcement.
  • Previous armed security experience is preferred.
  • Retail security, loss prevention, liquor-store, or high-volume retail experience is a plus.
  • Must have strong observation and situational-awareness skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Must be able to remain calm and make good decisions under pressure.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to complete clear and accurate incident reports.
Physical Requirements

The position requires officers to remain alert and active for extended periods.

Candidates must be able to:

  • Stand on their feet for long periods.
  • Walk and patrol for extended periods.
  • Remain alert throughout the entire shift.
  • Respond appropriately to changing situations.
  • Work in a busy, high-traffic retail environment.
  • Maintain composure during stressful or confrontational situations.
Schedule & Availability

Weekend availability is required.

Officers must also be available to work holidays when scheduled.

Hours may vary depending on the day and business needs, with shifts generally falling within a 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM range.
