Minimum Qualifications- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field; or equivalent.
- Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in law enforcement, security, or related experience, including five years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
- Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid, North Carolina driver’s license.
- Preferred training includes a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the fields listed above and certification or specialized training in Title IX/Clery Act Investigations.
Essential Duties—Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leadership and management of the FTCC Department of Public Safety and Security, a 24/7/365 operation; including hiring, training, direction, and supervision of police officers, non- sworn Public Safety Officers, dispatchers, and contract security officers.
- Manage, direct, and organize Public Safety and Security Department activities including planning, organizing, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, and review the work of personnel involved in the provision of campus traffic control and security for multi-campus locations providing a safe working and study environment.
- Assume lead staff position for emergency preparedness and coordinates with outside agencies, faculty, and staff to implement the National Incident Command structure.
- Assume Incident Commander Role in emergencies until and/or unless relieved by an appropriated outside public safety official.
- Collaborate with Federal, State, and local leaders (Chief of Police, Sheriff, Fire Chief, Director of County Emergency Management, and State and Federal Agencies) on community issues, emergencies, and investigations that may affect the college.
- Identify and recommend new and innovative ways to utilize technology to achieve college safety and security goals and objectives.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives: establish schedules and methods for providing campus Public Safety and Security; implement policies and procedures.
- Evaluate safety and security operations and activities.
- Conduct risk assessment of college for crime prevention and operational safety and security.
- Serve as the Chairperson for the Clery Act Committee and resource person for the Safety and Physical Facilities Committee. Develop a comprehensive College Safety Plan incorporating recommendation from the Committee.
- Provide input for the development of the Public Safety and Security Department budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; and administer the approved budget.
- Participate in the selection of security personnel and part-time police; provide or coordinate security officer training; work with personnel to correct performance deficiencies; conduct personnel evaluations; and implement disciplinary procedures as necessary.
- Develop contingency plans and procedures for emergencies to include but not limited to: bomb threats, hostage situations, and workplace violence prevention, fires and terrorist threats.
- Coordinate disaster response, crisis management activities, and special needs plans with local and state agencies.
- Review and revise all plans with local and state agencies for crisis management and emergency response.
