Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer ( CSO ) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University’s Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions:
University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO .

The Healthcare Security Supervisor is a hands‑on position where exceptional customer service is the top priority. This role ensures the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors at multiple healthcare facilities associated with the University of Utah, including the University Medical Center, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Huntsman Mental Health Institute, and several regional health centers.

Team members work under the direction of the University of Utah Chief Safety Officer in a dynamic 24/7 environment, with shifts during mornings, evenings, and overnight. Depending on location, employees may work 10‑hour or 13‑hour shifts, offering a schedule that provides ample days off and promotes a healthy work‑life balance.

This role encompasses responsibilities in various areas, including a Level 1 trauma center setting, and provides opportunities to work in uniformed operations and patrol, dispatch, investigations, training, and risk assessment. Employees receive specialized training to work effectively with patients and address healthcare security’s unique challenges.

• Supervise the daily operations of the health security dispatch center to ensure efficient and timely response to emergencies and non-emergency calls for service.
• Lead, schedule, and manage dispatch personnel to ensure continuous 24/7 operational coverage and appropriate staffing levels.
• Receive, prioritize, and coordinate emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching security officers and emergency response teams as appropriate.
• Monitor security alarms, surveillance systems, communication networks, and emergency notification systems.
• Ensure accurate documentation of all incidents, dispatch activities, and communications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
• Coordinate emergency response efforts with healthcare staff, law enforcement, fire departments, EMS , and other external agencies.
