Loader Operator

Position Overview:

This union position requires opening equipment for groundwork tasks and is part of the United Steelworkers Union Local 14581. The loader operator will operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, rock trucks, skid steers, and excavators as assigned.

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations.
• Report problems to appropriate supervisors.
• Follow the foreman’s direction for daily tasks.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment; refer major issues to supervisor.
• Conduct daily pre‑ and post‑inspections with proper documentation.
• Knowledge of diesel pump is a plus.
• Assist with general labor duties when needed.
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum age 18.
• Must pass pre‑employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Team player willing to assist co‑workers or supervisors.
• Must hold a current driver’s license that meets state requirements.
• Willing to travel and work away from home when required.
• Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Must wear PPE as directed: face shield, safety shoes, and coveralls.
• Compliance with all OSHA/MSHA regulations.

• Knowledge in operating heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
• Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
• Ability to operate equipment safely under varying conditions.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills for record keeping and interpreting project documents.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use judgement with complex equipment.

• Stand, walk, use hands and fingers, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
• Possibly sit for extended periods.
• Vision (corrected if needed) of close, distance, peripheral, depth and focus adjustment.
• Climb ladders and work at heights.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Exert up to 10–20 lbs constantly, 25–50 lbs frequently, and 50–100 lbs occasionally.

• Possible exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, outdoor weather, and electrical shock.
