General Job Description
This position is responsible for providing maintenance services to the entire plant, primarily regarding issues involving electrical, electronic, or automation problems. The Technician's primary responsibility is to handle breakdowns involving automation and electrical systems. The role requires work on scheduled downtime, including Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of sophisticated automation systems, systems re‑design, and new equipment installation. The Technician works as a team member of the Maintenance crew on either Day Turn or Shift Work, performing independent troubleshooting or repairs, collaborating with other crew members on work orders or breakdowns, and interacting with Operations personnel to determine the functionality of repairs or modifications to existing and new systems.
EssentialJob Functions
- Performs inspections, consults with operations, and checks downtime reports to keep current on any maintenance issues or problems in the Mechanic's assigned areas.
- Maintains an up‑to‑date list of all maintenance issues in the assigned areas.
- Works with the Mechanical Maintenance team (Engineer, Maintenance Group Leader) and outside contractors to schedule and complete necessary work based on urgency.
- Collaborates with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor and Engineer on projects and upgrades, potentially involving equipment manufacturers or other outside companies.
- Works with the Supervisor and Engineer to ensure all necessary spare parts are stocked.
- Maintains the assigned areas clean and free of accumulated trash or used parts, scheduling housekeeping work as needed.
- Repairs or replaces defective components that affect any mill equipment, including identifying, retrieving from spares, and installing parts.
- Completes maintenance work orders—electrical, mechanical, or automation—whether performed on downtime or while the machine is running.
- Provides necessary information to the rest of maintenance staff.
- Fills out PM Check Sheets where required.
- Performs miscellaneous jobs assigned verbally or in writing by the Maintenance Supervisor, Engineer, or Mill Manager.
- Substitutes for other Maintenance Technicians as needed.
- Physical requirements include lifting at least 50 pounds, climbing ladders, twisting, bending, stooping, and working in narrow, confined areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
- High School Diploma, Graduate Equivalent (GED), or equivalent.
- Two years of industrial experience and/or a technical degree or field related to industrial automation.
- Mobility within the plant.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and perform other routine tasks.
- Use of hands for technical tasks.
- Occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Visual ability with or without correction.
- Communication abilities.
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Follow company safety rules.
- Report any absence or defect in protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.
- Use or wear required protective equipment:
Safety shoes, Safety glasses, Hearing protection, Hard Hat. - Use additional PPE as required for specific areas, such as respirators (clean‑shaven face per OSHA regulations), fire‑retardant clothing, acid PPE.
- Report contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, or company policy to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead, or Supervisor.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
- Follow all environmental policies and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Work in clean, well‑ventilated and safe work areas.
- Abide by the Acerinox Code of Conduct.
