Maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, modifies, and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, laser, electro-optics, infrared, telemetry, network and communications systems, and navigational aids); personal and main frame computers and terminals, industrial, medical, measuring, and controlling equipment. Will be required to possess a good understanding of basic electronic theories and techniques and familiarity with standard electronic components.
Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mode, and recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Must be qualified to operate, maintain, repair, and modify complex state-of-the-art electronic, electro-optical and electro-mechanical equipment. Must be systems oriented and have the ability and knowledge to consolidate component sub-systems and assemblies into a workable system.
DUTIES
- Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.
- Includes determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
- Requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, installing wiring, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex networked computer control equipment.
- Replacing components, wiring circuits, repairing simple electronic equipment; and taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, oscilloscopes and amplifiers.
- Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.
- Provides orientation, technical guidance, work direction, and training to lower-level technicians.
- May be given the responsibility of a system isolated from the direct higher-level supervisor.
Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas such as environmental, safety and security. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. Required to be DoD 8570-1 certified or capable of achieving certification within one year of employment (Security+).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSMust be a technical or service school graduate in electronics. Two years' relevant experience as an Electronics Technician. Requires manual dexterity necessary to perform repairs and modifications to small assemblies such as integrated circuit boards. Must be advanced with the operation of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency measuring equipment, and other related measurement instruments. Knowledge of other trades such as the mechanical skills necessary to repair and modify servo systems, pedestal-drive systems, waveguide installations, and optics associated with laser and camera systems a plus.
OTHERREQUIREMENTS
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and a national agency check (NAC). Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Adheres to all USAF, State, and company laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENTMay perform work assignments in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Some tasks and assignments such as the installation; operation; and maintenance of mobile systems, aircraft systems, or range instrumentation will require work performance in outside environments in heat or cold with exposure to the conditions typical of various work locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequired to climb, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, pull, or carry heavy items.
