- Leads land preparation including disking, harrowing, levelling and set up of fields using GPS systems.
- Field set up including fumigation, laying plastic mulch, installation of irrigation equipment.
- Season-end crop termination, removal of plastic mulch, twine and planting cover crops
- Ensures calibration and maintenance of spray equipment.
- Supervise farm crews during crop maintenance operations and ensure they are trained to fulfill tasks.
- Oversight of crop production including pest control, fertilizer application, irrigation, and crop maintenance.
- Assists with the coordination with labs to ensure the successful harvest of research crops
- Implements maintenance programs for farm and irrigation equipment
- Provide guidance on routine repair and maintenance of the irrigation systems.
- Coordinate all cleaning of equipment and work areas to ensure sanitary conditions.
- Responsible for cleanliness, orderliness and maintenance of all work and storage areas.
- Consult with research staff in planning crop production and research activities.
- Maintains Center records and reports regarding farm conditions, machinery, and other operational issues.
- Conducts hiring, training and supervision of OPS and new Ag Assistant I and II members of the farm crew.
- Trains interns on the basics of tractor safety, operation, and calibration of spray equipment Provides support for field days and farm tours.
- Other duties as assigned (such as assist with center events, on call for center emergencies, at all hours).
$50K commensurate with experience and education
Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience working on an agricultural operation,
including supervision of others. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may
substitute at an equivalent rate for the required years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred Qualifications:
5-7 years experience working on an IFAS REC center agricultural field.
This position is eligible for veteran’s preference.
