The department is organized into five divisions: forestry division, livestock and poultry division, natural resources division, plant industries division, and shared services division.
the mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair work on automobiles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. The role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, carrying out preventative maintenance, repairing or replacing faulty components, and conducting vehicle inspections. The mechanic works with both powertrain and electrical systems to keep vehicles in optimal condition.
primary responsibilities- perform regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
- diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and electrical system issues.
- conduct routine inspections and safety checks to identify potential problems before they escalated.
- utilize diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment to pinpoint malfunctions.
- interpret error codes and data from onboard diagnostics systems to facilitate accurate repairs.
- remove, inspect, and replace worn-out or defective parts, including belts, hoses, brakes, and other vehicle components.
- ensure all work meets quality standards and regulatory requirements for safety and performance.
- maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
- prepare service reports and communicate technical details to management.
- keep tools, diagnostic equipment, and the work area clean, organized, and in optimal working condition.
- manage parts inventory and ensure timely ordering of replacement components.
- provide clear explanations regarding vehicle issues as well as repair and maintenance recommendations.
- in-depth knowledge of vehicle mechanics, systems, and repair techniques.
- familiarity with diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance systems.
- strong analytical skills to diagnose issues and determine effective repair solutions.
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot challenging issues.
- precision in performing repairs and recording work details to ensure vehicles meet safety standards.
- effective customer service and communication skills to explain technical problems in an understandable manner.

high school diploma or ged.
completion of an accredited automotive technology program or technical trade school curriculum focused on advanced automotive repair.
demonstrated ability to work with common automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures in a workshop or service center.
must be able to obtain a class b cdl within the first year of hire.
