Description

Diesel Automotive Technician About the Role

The Diesel Automotive Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing diesel-powered cars, pickup trucks, vans, and light- to medium-duty commercial vehicles. This role requires advanced mechanical and diagnostic expertise to accurately identify concerns, complete repairs efficiently, and deliver exceptional workmanship. The Diesel Automotive Technician works closely with Service Advisors, Parts personnel, and fellow technicians to provide outstanding customer service while maintaining manufacturer and dealership quality standards.

Compensation

$35.00 – $50.00+ per flat rate hour (based on experience, certifications, productivity, and performance)

Qualifications
  • Previous diesel repair experience required.
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications and/or manufacturer diesel certifications preferred.
  • Ford, GM, Cummins, Power Stroke, or Duramax certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong diagnostic, electrical, and drivability troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and manufacturer service information.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining quality standards.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Work Environment
  • Automotive service department.
  • Exposure to moving vehicles, lifts, shop equipment, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
  • Frequent interaction with Service Advisors, Parts Department, and fellow technicians.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work under vehicles for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Ability to safely operate customer and dealership vehicles.
Schedule
  • Full-time.
  • Monday through Saturday as determined by dealership operating hours.

Essential Functions /

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnostics & Repair
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, emissions systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, and related vehicle components.
  • Perform advanced electrical and drivability diagnostics using manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards.
  • Conduct road tests and verify repairs before vehicle delivery.
Maintenance & Inspection
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services on diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Inspect engines, drive trains, steering, suspension, braking, electrical, and emissions systems.
  • Identify additional maintenance or repair recommendations and communicate findings to Service Advisors.
Documentation
  • Accurately document inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations on repair orders.
  • Complete warranty documentation according to manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with dealership and OEM repair procedures.
Shop Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Properly maintain shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
  • Follow all OSHA, EPA, dealership safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in manufacturer training and continuing technical education.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Service Advisors, Shop Foreman, Parts Department, and fellow technicians.
  • Assist with complex vehicle diagnostics and repairs.
  • Support dealership productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
