Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
ESS is looking for an Experienced Shop Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment, trucks, and support vehicles in our shop. This role is for a hands-on mechanic who already has the fundamentals down and is ready to take on more complex diagnostic and repair work with minimal supervision, while helping mentor less-experienced techs on the team.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, trucks, etc.)
- Perform inspections, and DOT-required servicing to minimize equipment downtime.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic software to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Coach and mentor entry-level and mid-level mechanics on diagnostic technique and shop safety practices.
- Coordinate with the Shop Manager and field crews to prioritize repairs based on project schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop work area in line with ESS safety standards.
- 5+ years of experience as a mechanic servicing heavy construction equipment, trucks, or comparable diesel/hydraulic machinery.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drive trains.
- Ability to read technical/service manuals and use diagnostic scan tools.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
- Strong track record of working safely and independently.
