Brown Industrial Construction is a South East Louisiana Based Heavy Civil Contractor Focusing Primarily On Clearing and Grubbing, Excavation, Drainage Infrastructure, Materials Placement, Soil Stabilization, Deep Foundations, & Civil Concrete work. We are seeking motivated Carpenter Helpers to join our growing team.

The Civil Carpenter Helper assists Carpenters and Concrete crews in performing tasks related to concrete foundation construction while maintaining relevant safety and quality standards. This position supports the construction team by performing manual labor duties, assisting with form setting, material handling, concrete placement, and job site preparation and cleanup. The Carpenter Helper must be willing to learn construction methods, safety procedures, and the proper use of hand and power tools.

Location: This position is located throughout Louisiana, including Baton Rouge and surrounding areas statewide.

Responsibilities
  • Assist carpenters with building, setting, and stripping concrete forms.
  • Perform strenuous manual labor on heavy construction projects.
  • Assist with setting anchor bolts, tying rebar, building scaffolding, setting screeds, and installing batter boards.
  • Assist in placing and finishing concrete.
  • Use hand tools and operate pneumatic and electric power tools under supervision.
  • Load, unload, move, and stage construction materials and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site; pick up tools and equipment and secure work areas daily to eliminate hazards.
  • Excavate and fill trenches and ditches as directed.
  • Perform materials handling and storage duties.
  • Work safely around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Work from heights and on various platform types when required.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or hazards to the foreman, safety director, or HR manager.
  • Willingness to learn basic blueprint reading, measurements, and construction layout techniques.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites including extreme weather conditions such as high heat and humidity, cold, ice, snow, and rain. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue;

and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee works from platforms  employee walks and works on unlevel, steep, slippery, wet, muddy, & inconsistent ground. The employee must have excellent stamina.
