Job Description Maintenance Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of maintenance technicians.
- Prioritize maintenance work based on production requirements, safety, equipment condition, and downtime.
- Assign work orders and maintenance tasks to technicians based on skill level and priority.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to maintenance personnel.
- Monitor completion of preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance activities.
- Communicate equipment issues, downtime, and maintenance priorities to management and production supervision.
- Assist with training and development of maintenance technicians.
- Maintain a professional, safety-focused maintenance team environment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machinery and facility equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls-related problems.
- Troubleshoot motors, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, chains, sprockets, belts, pumps, valves, cylinders, sensors, switches, and other industrial components.
- Troubleshoot 120 VAC and other industrial control circuits.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, relays, contractors, safety circuits, and industrial controls.
- Perform equipment repairs and adjustments to restore production safely and efficiently.
- Work with outside contractors, equipment manufacturers, and service technicians when specialized assistance is required.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment used in the manufacture of vinyl windows, including but not limited to:
- Vinyl extrusion and processing equipment
- Window welding machines
- Corner cleaners
- Sawing and cutting equipment
- Routing equipment
- Drilling and machining equipment
- Assembly equipment
- Glass handling and glazing equipment
- Conveyors and material handling systems
- Compressors and pneumatic systems
- Dust collection and exhaust systems
- HVAC and facility equipment
- Pumps, motors, gearboxes, and drive systems
- Safety guarding and interlock systems
- Automated production equipment and controls
- Implement and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program.
- Complete scheduled PM inspections and repairs.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment histories.
- Monitor critical spare parts and recommend inventory levels.
- Inspect equipment for wear, damage, unsafe conditions, and potential failures.
- Recommend equipment improvements that increase reliability, safety, quality, or production efficiency.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Ensure maintenance work is performed using proper Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Maintain and troubleshoot machine safety devices, guards, interlocks, emergency stops, and safety circuits.
- Participate in machine safety inspections and corrective actions.
- Identify and report unsafe equipment or working conditions.
- Ensure maintenance personnel use appropriate PPE and safe work practices.
- Support electrical safety practices, including appropriate procedures for work involving energized electrical equipment.
- Respond promptly to production equipment breakdowns.
- Work with Production Supervisors and Leads to minimize downtime.
- Determine whether equipment should be repaired, adjusted, or removed from service.
- Assist Production with equipment setup, changeovers, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
- Identify opportunities to reduce recurring downtime and improve machine reliability.
- Track major downtime events and assist in determining root causes.
- Support continuous improvement projects involving equipment, automation, tooling, and processes.
- Accurately document repairs, parts used, downtime, and corrective actions.
- Maintain work orders and preventative maintenance records.
- Communicate equipment status and outstanding issues during shift handoffs.
- Maintain a list of critical equipment problems and follow-up actions.
- Recommend replacement parts, tooling, equipment upgrades, and capital improvements.
- Assist management with maintenance-related purchasing and project planning.
- Lead by example in safety, attendance, work quality, and professionalism.
- Take ownership of maintenance problems rather than simply identifying them.
- Develop less-experienced maintenance technicians through hands-on training.
