SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Public Works Superintendent, perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks in support of Town streets, wastewater collection system, parks, and rights-of-way. Work includes coordinating, assisting and inspecting contractors supporting the Town’s Public Works. Responsibilities range from manual labor, shop work, small equipment repair, vehicle maintenance, operation of hauling equipment, maintenance of the wastewater collection system, light construction, operation of equipment in support of Public Works projects.
ESSENTIALCOMPETENCIES
- 1.Drive light trucks hauling gravel, dirt, asphalt and Town equipment.
- 2.Proficiently operate all types of construction equipment utilized by the Town.
- 3.Operates light and heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of Town streets and rights-of-way.
- 4.Cuts brush; mows grass and picks up trash along Town streets and Town facilities and grounds.
- 5.Services and repairs all equipment as assigned.
- 6.Patches streets and cleans culverts.
- 7.Repair, clean and clears obstructions from storm drains and ditches.
- 8.Assists with inspection and replacement of street signs and posts.
- 9.Assists with mechanical, building and bridge repairs.
- 10.Performs work in compliance with accepted industry safety standards.
- 11.Works in support of contract wastewater crew which excavates, inspects, flushes, cleans and repairs sewer mains; installs or repairs taps, lines, and laterals; and monitors wastewater lift stations.
- 12.Must have knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to the Public Works Department.
- 14.Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- 15.Ability to learn quickly and take directions from supervisors.
- 16.Regular and punctual attendance is required.
- 17.Perform other duties as assigned.
Streets and Roadways:
Performs small scale fixes, fills potholes, provides base material, replaces damaged signs, fixes tire damage on landscape areas, assures traffic control safety is always present, checks street lights and removes debris. Makes field assessments, reports major issues to Superintendent/contractors, coordinates follow-up and documents contractor efforts.
Stormwater System:
Performs small scale fixes of problem drainage areas, performs jetting of culverts, determines grades, makes visits to drainage locations before and after storms to remove small scale debris deposits and assist with drainage area volunteer clean ups. Makes field assessments, reports the need to mobilize contractors, coordinates follow-up and documents contractor efforts.
Wastewater System:
Inspects metering and coordinates with TRA and City of Denton staff at wastewater collection system take points. Makes field assessments, assists contractors with locates, access, citizen interactions, mobilizes contractors for emergency clean ups and clearing of blockages, and documents contractor efforts.
Solid Waste:
Provides support staff support at contractor HHW and bulk trash events, picks up small-scale illegal dumping, contacts contractors for large-scale illegal dumping, meets on-site to resolve concerns of citizens and business owners,
