RPM Utilities is seeking an experienced Pipe Layer to join our underground utility construction team. The Pipe Layer will be responsible for installing and connecting underground utility pipe while working closely with Foremen, Equipment Operators, and other crew members.
The ideal candidate has experience with underground utility construction, trench work, pipe installation, grading, and jobsite safety.
Responsibilities- Install underground utility pipe according to project plans and specifications.
- Assist with the installation of water, sewer, storm drainage, and other underground utility systems.
- Set pipe to proper line, grade, elevation, and slope.
- Measure, cut, connect, and position pipe and fittings.
- Install valves, fittings, manholes, structures, and related utility components as required.
- Assist with excavation, trench preparation, bedding, back filling, and compaction.
- Work safely in and around trenches and excavation areas.
- Use lasers, levels, measuring tools, and other equipment to verify proper pipe placement.
- Inspect pipe and fittings before installation for damage or defects.
- Assist Equipment Operators with spotting, signaling, and safely positioning materials.
- Maintain proper communication with the Foreman and other crew members throughout the workday.
- Follow project plans, specifications, and Foreman instructions.
- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite.
- Properly use and care for hand tools, power tools, and company equipment.
- Follow all OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Assist with general labor duties as needed to support the crew.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or construction concerns to the Foreman immediately.
- Previous underground utility construction or pipe laying experience strongly preferred.
- Experience installing water, sewer, storm drainage, or similar underground piping preferred.
- Knowledge of proper pipe installation, grading, bedding, and trenching procedures.
- Ability to read measurements and understand basic construction plans and elevations.
- Experience using lasers, levels, and measuring equipment preferred.
- Ability to safely work around excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
- Understanding of trench and excavation safety requirements.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in and around trenches, excavation areas, and active construction sites.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift and carry construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
- Must be able to work early mornings, overtime, and extended hours based on project needs.
