About the RolePerform Container Shop inspection, maintenance, repair, welding, fabrication, and operational support work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Company policies and procedures, applicable House Rules, safety requirements, and lawful instructions.
Container Shop Functions- Inspect all incoming empty containers for damage.
- Perform maintenance and repair of containers and flatracks.
- Perform signs and miscellaneous building repairs.
- Assist CY/CFS operations when loading and unloading.
- Inspect containers and flatracks.
- Perform cutting, welding, fabrication, structural repair, body repair, touch-up, and related work on containers and flatracks.
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and evaluate container and flatrack damage and defects using approved procedures and established quality standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance and evaluate the condition of Container Shop equipment and assigned work.
- Perform Watch Gate and gate inspection or relief assignments when directed.
- Respond to CFS container issues and other assigned operational requirements, including on-call assignments, as directed.
- Test and inspect completed work to verify proper performance, safe condition, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Properly use, inspect, care for, and store tools, machinery, equipment, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain work areas in a safe, orderly, and environmentally responsible condition.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, near misses, equipment damage, and work-related concerns through established Company channels.
- Perform other related duties as needed or directed, consistent with operational requirements, Company policies, safety requirements, and the CBA.
- Work safely at all times and follow all applicable Company policies and procedures, House Rules, safety rules, work instructions, and federal, state, local, and terminal requirements.
- Wear and properly use all required PPE and never bypass, disable, or disregard required safeguards or safe work procedures.
- Follow lawful instructions and complete assigned work safely, efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, accountability, and readiness to work assigned schedules.
- Maintain professional, respectful, and cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, operations personnel, contractors, vendors, and customers.
- Communicate work status, hazards, delays, quality concerns, and resource needs promptly and accurately.
- Support a workplace focused on safety, teamwork, quality, respect, and continuous improvement.
- Proficient in standard welding and fabrication tools, materials, methods, and practices, including cutting torches, welding machines, grinders, ironworker or cutting equipment, hydraulic jacks, and basic hand tools.
- Welder certification is required.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of welding experience is required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of mechanical experience is required.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, repair criteria, and technical information applicable to assigned work.
- Ability to inspect completed work and recognize conditions requiring correction or escalation.
