Journey Line Technician

Under the general direction of the Lead Line Person or ML&P Department Manager performs advanced work and often independently, in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electric utility lines with safety at the forefront.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Duties will include but not limited to:

• Performing independent advanced work in the construction and maintenance of transmission lines
• Distribution primary and secondary electric utility lines, both overhead and underground.
• Undertakes aerial work using personal climbing gear or from bucket truck
• Perform all aspects of live line maintenance with both hot sticks and rubber gloves, that will include setting poles, stringing conductors, installing line equipment; operate hand and power tools plus equipment such as backhoe, bucket truck, boom and digger truck, brush chipper and dump truck
• Remove or trim trees
• Read meters, disconnect and reconnect meters, tests meters for accuracy.
• Locate underground lines and faulty electrical cable with locating equipment
• Is on-call for after-hours electrical problems.
• Installs and removes Christmas decorations and banners
• Takes part in warehousing tasks, as required; perform janitorial work in plant.
• Assist other departments, as required.
• Cooperates closely with the Senior Journey Lineworker and other journey line persons and apprentice line persons to maintain an efficient and safe team, and maintains a good relationship with consumers, contractors and other utilities.

• Thorough knowledge of safety procedures for constructing and maintaining primary and secondary electric utility lines.
• Working knowledge of electric theory.
• Ability to troubleshoot and use foresight to make repairs expeditiously and thoroughly.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to lead other workers.
• Possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to climb poles, operate equipment and make repairs.
• Ability to talk and hear in person and on a communication device.
• Ability to hear faulty equipment, power lines and instructions.
• Ability to see to make repairs and to read information.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and the public.
• Possess a valid commercial driver license or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Will be required successfully pass the required pre-employment drug and background check.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Applicants must have passed a Journey Line Person certification test or training and/or experience equivalent to certification requirements. The testing entity must meet the approval of the ML&P Manager.
• Certified as a Journey Line Person or training and/or experience equivalent to certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Advanced math skills.
