What this job involves
- The Union Mobile Engineer
- Lighting Controls Field Technician delivers advanced technical expertise in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex lighting control systems. Operating under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between JLL and the International Union of Operating Engineers – Local 39, this role is responsible for diagnosing sophisticated system performance issues, executing preventive maintenance, fine-tuning network parameters, and supporting lighting control projects to achieve peak energy efficiency, safety, and operational reliability across client facilities.

** Responsibilities:
*** Serve as the technician for all aspects of our lighting control systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
* Participate in and/or oversee the installation and commissioning of sensors, controllers, and related equipment, ensuring adherence to specifications and best practices.
* Program and configure lighting control strategies, schedules, and integrations based on project requirements and energy efficiency goals.
* Proactively monitor the performance of the lighting control system, perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary repairs or adjustments.
* Conduct routine safety and preventive maintenance inspections of lighting control systems to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain optimal performance.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults, network connectivity issues, hardware malfunctions, and software glitches to implement necessary repairs.
* Respond to service calls and emergency situations promptly (including outside regular hours when required), diagnosing lighting control problems and implementing effective solutions.
* Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to ensure effective communication, align on objectives, and complete work efficiently.
* Provide assistance, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced team members as needed.
* Manage and maintain the work order queue to ensure on-time completion while providing timely updates for client transparency.
* Manage and optimize lighting control hardware inventory to maximize the operational lifespan and performance of legacy and end-of-life components.
* Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including daily logs, time sheets, and work orders.
* Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring a safe work environment for oneself and others.
* Keep up-to-date with industry trends, codes, regulations, and best practices in lighting control systems.

* Qualifications:

*** High school diploma or equivalent; relevant professional certifications preferred.
* Proven track record as a Senior Engineer or similar, with expertise in troubleshooting and repairing lighting control systems.
* Thorough understanding of electrical codes, including California Title 24 standards and industry best practices.
* Proficient in interpreting technical electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
* Strong knowledge of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, Ethernet) and IT infrastructure, with preference for familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and integration protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus).
* Industry certifications (e.g., Certified Lighting Controls Professional, network credentials) are a plus.
* Advanced analytical and diagnostic skills for resolving complex electrical and lighting control issues.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors.
* Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently or within team settings.
* Adaptable learner eager to master emerging lighting control technologies.
